Sydney Guitar Festival Tributes Focus: Jak Housden

Which act are you paying tribute to and why? Eric Clapton. It's a rare opportunity for nine of Australia's favourite guitar players to get together and showcase their talents on the same stage. Plus we get to hang out and be true guitar nerds :)

What was their best period musically? For me, it's Cream. I love the mysterious murkiness of Disraeli Gears from '67. Eric's high volume killer tone bursting out of the poetic psych lyrics. You can almost feel the studio windows rattling.

Your favourite riff of theirs and why? Probably Sunshine Of Your Love. Pretty great that one!

Is their material generally easy or hard to play? It's not necessarily difficult to play… the magic comes with how you play it though. It's not a numbers game, it's all heart and feel.

What was the first song of theirs you managed to play all the way through? Strange Brew.

Which album of theirs would you give to a newbie who had no idea about them to best represent them? A Cream Best Of or the aforementioned Disraeli Gears. It showcases Clapton in a stylistic setting that resonates with me.

When and where is your gig paying tribute? 25 Aug, The Concourse
