Brisbane indie-rock four-piece Video Avenue continue the run-up to their debut EP, The Mixtape, with the release of second single Waste Of Time.
Vocalist/songwriter James Walmsley explains that the upbeat, jangly ditty is a song "about being stuck in a cycle of unrequited love with someone, and not having the strength to give them up".
"In that situation, you have to realise you're wasting everyone's time and need to let go," he said in a statement. "It's a hard thing to do, but it's something you eventually have to accept, and that's reflected in the lyrics, 'I'm glad you're not mine.'
Splashing the driving soundscape with catchy backups, tambourine hits and Walmsley's endearing, heart-on-sleeve lyricism, the song stands as a solid follow-up to the band's debut single, Homewrecker, and sets The Mixtape up to be a smart little collection of tight, radio-friendly indie-pop jams sure to please a crowd.
