"It was a cathartic process for me personally and helped me somewhat make sense of a situation that was hard to find sense."
Newcastle indie-roots songwriter Rod Coote has shared his brand new tune Wild Pine as an exclusive right here with The Music.
A musical tribute to a late family member, Coote said the song will always hold special significance to him.
"Writing Wild Pine was an important part of my grieving following the passing of my grandfather," Coote explained.
"The song is kinda like a tattoo, every time I hear it now it just naturally makes me think of all the memories I shared with my grandfather and reminds me of those final moments we spent together on our last day in the hospital together.
"It was a cathartic process for me personally and helped me somewhat make sense of a situation that was hard to find sense.
"In the following months after he passed, I discovered an old video on my phone of my grandfather talking to me. I found it so fascinating hearing his voice while he no longer lived with us at that present time. I ended up subtly including a short voice recording of him in a section of the song, making this song an ode to him."
