"It took me a few weeks to write some lyrics that would match the song's vibe."
Newcastle indie pop/folk maestro Rod Coote debuts a “polished” new sound with his first track of 2020, Ghost Town.
Premiering today via The Music, the new song, as described by Coote, “blends the initial intimacy of a folk song and slowly unfolds into a rad indie-rock vibe with pop melodies."
“During the COVID-19 lockdown, I spent most of my time writing/demoing new music in my DIY home studio in Newcastle,” Coote told The Music.
“The chorus hook of Ghost Town was the initial idea for this song, then it took me a few weeks to write some lyrics that would match the song's vibe. After this, I produced a demo for Garrett Kato to listen too.
“Once the lockdown ceased, I immediately travelled to Byron Bay to professionally record this track with producer, singer-songwriter and a long-time idol of mine, Garrett Kato. I spent a week of recording in his dreamy studio and got multiple tracks including Ghost Town recorded.”
The other tracks recorded, one of which is a collaboration, will be released in the coming months.
