Smooth-as-silk Sydney singer-songwriter Ric Rufio may have only made his solo debut earlier this year, but the muso is a well-seasoned slinger of smooth jams, having spent the past few years working in the company of artists such as Nick Murphy, Daniel Johns, Kirin J Callinan and Thelma Plum, among others.
So, it shouldn't come as too big a surprise that his new single Water To Wine is a highly accomplished, eminently listenable piece of work, fusing electronic soundscapes with buttery R&B vocals that will set you gunning for that Play button again as soon as its over.
It turns out that even Rufio got a little hooked on the song when he was writing it, saying in a statement: "Water To Wine started with the chorus — as soon as I wrote it I couldn’t shake it.
"Every morning I’d wake up it’d be the first thing I’d hear in my head. It’s scary to write a song about trying to convince someone you’re not a fuckup only to realise you’re really trying to convince yourself."
The tune is the second single (after previous effort So Wonderful) to be taken from his upcoming debut EP, Rewind, set for release in the near future. Having not only honed his craft working with Murphy, Johns and Callinan, he's toured alongside them too, as well as performing with international drawcards Adele and Macklemore (at the NRL Grand Final, no less).
Water To Wine is out now through Mirror Records, but you'll want to head over to his Facebook page and give him a Like to make sure you don't miss his future announcements around the EP and upcoming shows.
