Linkin Park On 'From Zero' & Their Return To Australia: 'We're More Assured That This Is What We Want To Be Doing'

PREMIERE: Phoebe Day Makes A Smooth & Soulful Statement With New Single 'Place In Time'

The Sydney singer-songwriter is ready to spread her solo wings, and kicks off on the right foot with her lush new song.

Sydney-bred soul/R&B singer-songwriter Phoebe Day is readying herself for the release of her new single Place In Time tomorrow, and we at The Music are chuffed to be bringing you a premiere listen this afternoon.

Centering on Day's smooth, enchanting vocals, the song utilises heavy jazz influences — in both instrumentation and arrangement — to create a truly distinct and engrossing soundscape, filled with sparkling piano, sweet, sweet saxophone, hushed percussion and unexpected melodic shifts to keep the listener invested from start to finish.

Though this is her debut solo single, Day is already an accomplished musician, having studied at the Australian Institute Of Music in Sydney and honed her live chops with performances at venues such as Foundry 616, Venue 505 and PLAYBAR.

She has previously collaborated with saxophonoist Joel Sena, helping to record his debut EP in 2015 and featuring on hi single Be With You just under a year ago.

Although she's still working with Sena, the past 18 months have seen Day stretch her wings to start exploring her own solo works, Place In Time being the first in a collection of tunes "that evoke the deep desire for human connection".

"I'd love to create something people can connect to," she said in a statement. "A recording that I know is a true and honest reflection of myself as an artist. I'm still learning and growing, but mostly I just want to create great music that adds something to someone's day."

If Place In Time is any indication, we'd say she's well and truly on track to do just that.
