Melbourne three-piece psych-funk outfit Maverick have lifted the veil on their debut single, Blood Orange Sun, and theMusic.com.au is stoked to be premiering the track today.
The song — which taps into vibes the boys bill as "the Golden Sound" — is the culmination of a year of cutting their teeth on the local live circuit, sharing stages with their peers in bands such as Gold Member, Neon Queen and Birdhouse.
Blood Orange Sun showcases the trio's bountiful time-warping talents as it shifts gears with ease between deep offbeat grooves and more malleable moments that seemingly elongate beats, stretch bars and loosen timing — wihtout ever losing its base appeal — to create a deeply listenable, multi-layered and moreish piece of sunny sweetness, ready for you to digest as many times over as you please.
Maverick will be launching the single with a special free show at The Penny Black in a couple weeks' time, on Friday 21 April. They'll be joined by Elk & Mammoth, Mona Bay and Sinead Horne for the festivities. Make sure you give them some love on Facebook to stay on top of their other upcoming movements and releases.
