PREMIERE: Sydney Indie-Soul Group Levingstone Dance In The Face Of Death On New Single 'Ritual'

Sydney indie-soul five-piece Levingstone today release their groove-heavy new single Ritual, from their upcoming sophomore EP Overland.

Billed as "a song about death that you could dance to" and premiering today on theMusic.com.au, the song was recorded at The Grove Studios by Chris Jackson and mastered by Kelly Hibbert (Little Dragon, Hiatus Kaiyote, New Venusians).

"We’re so scared of talking about dying," lead singer Sammii Su said in a statement. "I’ve always had a macabre fascination — but a recent event suddenly made it very ugly and real. So this song is a way of reframing, trying to sing myself away from fear."

Su's vocals provide a suprisingly sweet coating for the song's heavy themes, the soundscape also dabbling in more playful vibes than you'd usually hear in a tune about mortality; the band's horn-filled, synth-lined instrumentation provides an ebullient arena for the members to couch the song's philosophical darkness in a tangible element of light.

Overland will be released in November, with Levingstone set to announce a run of shows to coincide with its release in the near future.
