“It is a classic break-up song."

More Kids At Midnight More Kids At Midnight

Melbourne songwriter Kids At Midnight, aka Jane Elizabeth Hanley, isn’t slowing down for a second, today debuting a brand new single to her fast-growing fanbase.

The local indie pop artist’s 2019-released track, Boys Like You, featured on Mindy Kaling's new Netflix series, Never Have I Ever, last month and she’s keeping the momentum going with fresh cut Mary Queen Of Scots, premiering today via The Music.

“It's so hard to decide after the fact why a song has turned out the way it has,” Hanley told The Music of the new track.

“I certainly didn't set out to use this tragic yet heroic figure as an allegory to my own love life, but I just started singing along to these chords one day, wondering why, when I try so, so hard, like really truly I've been searching my whole life for that great love, why I always fall short?

“It is a classic break-up song, I guess, with a little bit of tragic historical glamour set in an ‘80s movie, which I kind of love.”

After Boys Like You featured on Never Have I Ever last month, the song shot to #4 on Apple Music's Shazam Discovery list.
