Sydney-based songstress Ella Haber is no stranger to soulful, funk-infused, hip-swaying music, and on her new single Walk On, her captivating voice and seasoned songwriting shine their warmest and brightest.
Walk On is a dominating, powerful song where Haber tells it how it is without worrying about repercussions. She opens with a statement of “I’m not waiting”, set to a head-nodding bassline and glistening keys before the horn lines and infectious harmonies kick in. Her new single is a symbol of self-preservation, a sonic declaration of her need to look out for herself and prioritise what she needs and deserves. Set against the backdrop of 60s and 70s-inspired instrumentation, Walk On is equal amounts of resilience and uncompromising attitude, signifying the journey this next chapter holds for Haber.
In a press release, the artist said that the song came together during a “difficult year of change and loss”.
“Walk On has been my guiding light,” she said.
“It has gently but persistently reminded me to always choose joy and protect my integrity at all costs. Whether as an artist, lover, friend or relative, we have to be fearless in walking away from relationships that do not serve us.”
Haber has taken to many familiar stages over the years, playing support for artists like Cymande at Liberty Hall this year, and Alfa Mist at the Sydney Opera House last year. But now, she’s embarking on a double-headline tour this November with close friend and fellow groove master CINTA in celebration of Walk On’s release.
