Though they're fairly new to the scene, Melbourne's Backyard are putting their stamp on the Aussie music scene with their charming new single, Reality Television, premiering on theMusic.com.au today.
Made up of past and present members from fan-favourite bands like Dirt Farmer, Kinder and The Messengers, the new tune brings another serving of nostalgic Australian pop music that follows previous singles, Best View Of Dean St and Young & Old.
"Often it seems like every day and every week is the same, and then all of a sudden you realise a lot has changed," Backyard say of Reality Television.
"Writing about procrastination somewhat justifies the time you’ve wasted. Reality Television is an ode to wasted time and mirrors falling asleep on the couch after you’ve just spent an entire Sunday afternoon in front of the TV. You wake up disorientated and sore and for a moment you don’t remember what day it is or if you were meant to be somewhere."
Backyard are already gearing up to release more music by year's end, while Melbourne fans can catch them at Penny Black this Friday and on Saturday 16 September at The Yarra Hotel.
