'It’s Hard To Push Back The Fear': Jay Watson Steps Into The Light As GUM

SINGLE PREMIERE: Asha Jefferies - Coburg

The Qld songstress follows up her acclaimed cut 'On The Inside' with a soaring and atmospheric new tune.

More Asha Jefferies Asha Jefferies

Prodigious indie-pop singer-songwriter Asha Jefferies is about to set off on a massive 15-date national tour and, ahead of her departure, The Music is stoked to be premiering her sublime new single, Coburg.

Finding its genesis after the muso had "done something so outside of myself, so far-fetched" in the titular Melbourne suburb, Coburg is a song about "the art of disconnecting from your values and dealing with the aftermath", Jefferies explained.

"I felt like I had woken from this dream and wondered, 'How did I end up here?'" she said of the deeply personal song.

The single follows her lauded previous cut On The Inside, and came to life with the assistance of a pair of her self-professed songwriting heroes Rohin Jones (The Middle East) and Aaron Shanahan (Miami Horror), whose influence was "a vital part of the editing process and encouraged me to write to the best of my ability", she says.

The upcoming run marks Jefferies' widest tour to date, and will see her kick off with a trio of shows in Brisbane from this Thursday, when she gets under way supporting Daggy Man at the Black Bear Lodge.

She then supports Shag Rock (38 Berwick Street) and Little Brother (again at Black Bear) before heading off as a mainstay support for Pierce Brothers' upcoming tour through Adelaide, Geelong, Byron Bay, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Jefferies follows those slots up with a series of headline shows in Belgrave, Mornington, Melbourne, San Remo, Sydney and Newcastle before rounding out with one more support outing in Brisbane, for Kellie Lloyd's show at the Junk Bar on 24 September.

Coburg is out now. See theGuide for a full list of dates, venues and other details about the tour, and be sure to swing Asha Jefferies a Like on Facebook to stay on top of her upcoming movements and releases.
