Single title: Hank And Tammy

What’s the song about? The tragic true tale of an old couple who were caught smuggling drugs in their Winnebago in Anuhuac, Texas.

How long did it take to write/record? It was recorded in 15 minutes, second take, live with a band so ten minutes. Writing it took a few weeks after I heard the story.

Is this track from a forthcoming release/existing release? It is the single from my latest album Land Of No Roads which is out now. I just did a fun film clip for it too which is worth a look.

What was inspiring you during the song’s writing and recording? Elderly people stricken by poverty. The Texas judge who locked them up told me the story. I was frequenting cajun and country music bars which inspired the music, and Steve Riley and Robbie Fulks guest on it.

We’ll like this song if we like... Your grandparents, songs with a story, Lafayette, country music, Terry Allen, Steve Earle, an occasional banjo hoedown.

Do you play it differently live? Yes it varies live; the vibe is generally funny and sad at the same time, whether solo or with me band I very much enjoy performing it.
