Earlier this year we had the utmost honour of premiering a new EP from WA-based hip hop artist Ziggy. The three-tracker, Black Thoughts, didn't mince words and provided a fresh new voice when it comes to race relations in modern Australia. The golden-era hip hop style of production (from fellow WA kids JCAL and Palace) perfectly suited Ziggy's flow, one that draws influence from the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Yaslin Bey (Mos Def) while tackling the many silenced injustices of Indigenous Australians.
Following on from that, today we're again very fortunate to premiere for you the video clip for the EP's title track, and it's perfect. Raw and honest, Ziggy delivers the track with understated aggression, and had this to say on the clip: "These are the faces of Indigenous Australia. We stand, it's in our blood. Black thoughts." We said a few months ago that the Black Thoughts EP was essential listening, and the lead track's visual treatment is no less essential viewing:
