Rising Naarm/Melbourne singer-songwriter Rhys Thompson has unveiled his latest single, with Calling Me arriving as the latest taste of his forthcoming EP.

The new single follows on from a busy few months for Thompson, which saw him unveil debut single Nowhere To Be in September, which was followed up by 6am just two months later.

Now, he’s shared his first piece of music for 2025, with Calling Me officially released today, February 13th.

Somewhat of a slight departure from the folky sound he established with his first tracks, the Stephen Mowat-produced tune sees Thompson blending his Americana vibes with more of a polished pop sound, with its lyrical focus of burgeoning love represented in its dreamy aesthetic.

“Calling Me is the third release off my upcoming EP by the same title (the Calling Me EP),” Thompson explained of the track. “It’s a fun, upbeat pop song about falling for someone, and letting your mind run away with the fantasy of what could be.

“Working with Stephen Mowat again, producing this track was such a creative process. We went chasing for that real dreamscape kind of feel and I’m beyond happy with the result!”

As Thompson indicated, the track is also set to feature on his forthcoming release, the Calling Me EP, which showcases his myriad musical influences and talents.

Inspired by names like Gillian Welch, Kacey Musgraves, Justin Townes Earle, and Jason Isbell, the EP spotlights the breadth of Thompson’s work, with thematic explorations of love, loss, and nostalgia all present within his acclaimed work.

Thompson’s upcoming EP will be launched with a special show at The Wesley Anne in Northcote on March 14th, with supported coming from special guest Yours, Georgina, Tickets to the gig are on sale now.
