Trio of Boorloo-based MCs deliver their second single of exploratory hip hop for the year, take a sneaky fist listen before it drops Thursday.
Six months on from dropping their GTA V inspired single 72 Hours, some of the freshest MCs in the West, rap duo Otiuh and MC extraordinaire Cruz Patterson (Koi Child, Kissinger Kruz) team up once more for the trappy and trippy new single Medusa.
An exploratory and experimental production, Medusa pairs booming 808 bass lines with trappy drums, subtle sax, layered synths and looped vocal samples, before an unexpectedly delightful beat switch turns the track on its head, while the trio of MCs alternate their unique, rapid fire flows exploring the dream of many artists - financial independence, as emphasised by Patterson’s contrasting bars of “I’d use a payphone, used to check for change bro” with the hook “All that I can see is a money tree”.
Cesare of Otiuh says “This is my favourite thing I've made yet. Only Cruz Patterson would hop on a beat like this, write a song, and allow me the freedom to turn it into something truly whacked out, original, and somewhat jarring.
We recorded this in September last year after a writing trip down south, over a few bottles of wine, and have been finishing it on-and-off since then. Mixed by JCAL - who also added synthesizers at the end of the track. Music video is incoming shortly as well. Perhaps a collaborative EP mid next year too…”
