Premiere: Melbourne's Sunnyside drop a new song, Coconuts, before Japan tour

If you're yet to be acquainted, Sunnyside is a Melbourne-based six-piece who over the last three years have continually grown and evolved in both sound and line-up, moving from a local trio making their name within the indie-dance space to a now-six-piece who, on their new single Coconuts, welcome a jazz-dance epic, lush with joining layers and complexities that make it a real step up.

Arriving in the midst of a Victorian tour and with long-awaited shows in Japan planned out for the next few weeks (including a slot at the infamous festival heavyweight Fuji Rock), Coconuts is a sun-soaked seven-minute epic which grows and loudens as it draws longer, transforming from a subtle jazz-funk groove into a lush, JUNGLE-esque climax which layers horns, keys, vocals and more together with intricacy and precision you'd expect from a band twice their age. It's the first track since their break-out 2018 record Body Heat, and carries the very genre-less vision the album oozes as the group have the space to move between sounds and styles, incorporating elements of indie, pop, jazz, funk and disco as it draws longer.

It's the first single from their forthcoming second album Momentum (which is due later in the year), but in the meantime, get lost in Coconuts' lush rhythms below - accompanying cocktails recommended.
