One of this year's more low-key (but still stellar) albums came from Melbourne musician Jarrow, who followed up his excellent debut LP 2003 Dream with a ten-track indie-rock odyssey titled Expensive Hugs. Among easy stand-outs like Emoji and Bleach is another titled Season, a breezy, guitar-driven tune which today, is joined by an official video clip. It's a bit of a light-hearted, yet semi-serious clip full of gun violence and acid baths similar to something you'd expect out of Breaking Bad, but with that DIY aesthetic that Jarrow has become known for in his videos (he also stars in them too, by the way).
"Season reflects my outside perspective of the desensitisation of gun culture within the USA," says Jarrow on the clip, which arrives ahead of an anti-violence against women fundraiser he'll be playing in August - more deets below. "It's a topic I feel pretty strongly about - which I feel a lot of Australians share. The track attempts are to point out the ridiculous nature which spawns daily incidents in the US and the trivial comparisons that are made in the process."
"Early in production we decided on making a video with a distinct narrative," the video's director, Max Wood, confirms. "Borrowing influences from Jarrow in the song's writing along with elements of Breaking Bad, the story developed from there. Ensuring the clip contained romance, gun violence and driving dead bodies through the drive-through, a true tragicomedy was born."
