Katy SteeleAs if we didn't already think Tasmania-based producer Akouo was one of the country's most hard-working, interesting, prolific and diverse producers going around, here we are today sharing another stellar new remix from an unlikely source. Katy Steele recently returned to Australian music's collective concious with comeback single Where's The Laughter, a bold statement from one of this country's favourite singer/songwriters and the first shot fired in the lead-up to her new album, Human, out October 21.
Not content with simply releasing a cracking indie-pop tune, Steele now shows she knows what's going on in 2016 in the electronic music world, and inviting Akouo to work his magic on the stems for Where's The Laughter is an inspired choice:
"It was really exciting for me to send out the stems to see what would come back. I was so intrigued to hear what Akouo would come up with. I've always been super inspired by the the idea of one artist taking another artist's work and the potential it holds. It's so exciting being able to hear a different take on your track. I think Where's the Laughter has taken on a whole new life and it's now a certified different type of banger."
And she's not kidding - what was once a soaring indie-pop gem has taken on a tough new shape, with some grinding synth work, big kick drums and crunching snares that gives the already great track new life.
Consider this a little gift to tide you over until Human's release next week:
