Australian A/V artist Robin Fox presents the world premiere of a new show called Euclidean Drone at Unsound Adelaide, where, for the first time, he turns his lasers toward a screen, melding geometric shapes with a massive sound. Here are the records that helped shape the artist we know today.
Best record you stole from your folks’ collection? The Beatles - Rubber Soul.
First record you bought? I always thought it was Wham’s Make It Big, but it was actually Thriller – Michael Jackson. I was nine.
Record you put when you’re really on miserable? Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring or Shostakovich's 8th String Quartet - they both balance dark and sombre with a frenetic elemental energy. So they indulge my mood and lift me out of it simultaneously.
Record you put on when you bring someone home? I don't really 'bring people home', but I remember a great moment making out with my partner when we first met and Skid Row's 18 And Life came around on shuffle. Google it. It was surreal and hilarious.
Most surprising record in your collection? Probably my original Wham Make It Big record - or I also have Hitler’s speeches on vinyl - which I guess is weird.
Last album you bought/downloaded/streamed? Keith Fullerton Whitman has been releasing a lot on Bandcamp recently. So I’m grabbing it all!
