Personal Best Records: Madre Monte

Best record you stole from your folks’ collection? Cali Pachanguero from the great salsa band Grupo Niche, a song that represents my home town Cali.

First record you bought? El Amor después del Amor by Argentinian Fito Paez when I was 14; had no idea who he was but fell in love with the music after the first listen.

Record you put on when you’re really miserable? El Cantante by Ruben Blades: instant mood lifter! Gets me out of my head and into the moment. Even my neighbours have learned to love it ;-).

Record you put on when you bring someone home? Vamo’ a Levanta’ by Grupo Bahia – traditional Pacific Colombian roots music. Will have a room dancing instantly!

Most surprising record in your collection? Musica para bebes; saved our sanity and got us some sleep in the first year of my son’s life.

Last thing you bought/downloaded? Fat Freddy’s Drop – Blackbird. Awesome!! I would love to play with these guys one day!.

When and where are your next gigs? 30 Jan, Mojo’s Bar; 31 Jan, Settlers Tavern; 1 Feb, Fremantle Arts Centre.
