Once Every 15 Days by Alex Gillies

Melbourne artist Alex Gillies is exhibiting his incredible (and oft-music related) woodcuts.. Brisbane-based artist Alex Gillies is making the trip south this weekend for his fourth solo exhibition, and first in Melbourne upstairs at The Old Bar in Fitzroy. 'Once Every 15 Days' is a showcase of his printmaking work from the past six years, specifically in the medium of woodcuts. Gillies' work interweaves his love of music with his woodcuts, having created artwork for acts such as No Anchor, Violent Soho, Harmony and High Tension, as well as and Screamfeeder’s Kelly Lloyd and legendary American record label Amphetamine Reptile.

The exhibition runs from Friday 23 May until Sunday 1 June, featuring more than 40 pieces, including Gillies' music-related artworks, a giant Japanese-themed triptych and a hand-carved guitar. Opening night (Friday May 23rd) will include special live performances from hair raising locals High Tension, and Alex's own band Grieg, along with a very special secret guest set from an act whose album artwork Alex recently crafted.
