To celebrate Not On Your Rider turning three with a massive extravaganza at Fortitude Music Hall this Friday, July 8, quizmaster Aimon Clark takes a trip down memory lane, revisiting some of the best moments from the past three years.
When comedian Rhi Down was a guest on the show she told the audience early in the night about her father – who had been an Elvis impersonator for her whole life. He loved performing as Elvis for the family and around town but was hit with a brain aneurysm a year earlier while doing karaoke. He hadn’t performed Elvis since the aneurysm and was hesitant to get back into it. We normally end NOYR with a karaoke performance featuring Patience, but this time we invited Rhi’s dad Greg to come out and sing an Elvis song for the crowd. It was a very emotional and memorable moment, with Greg absolutely bringing the house down.
On a show in 2021, beloved Australian Idol judge and fixture of reality television Dicko was mocked by a fellow panellist for not having a catchphrase as good as Mark Holden’s ‘Touchdown’. Dicko told us he regretted not coming up with it himself and wanted to reclaim it for his own, and brought the crowd to a frenzy with his own version.

Earlier this year an Australian music icon joined us as a panellist – he told us about the time he went to see James Brown perform with Björk and what it was like working with the Beastie Boys. We created a musicless version of his video for Catch My Disease and to top off the night Ben and Patience performed a charged cover of the Kylie Minogue/Jason Donovan classic Especially For You.
There is an amazing video on YouTube of Brisbane band Sheppard entering a massive Rock In Rio show by flying fox. We tried to recreate that entrance once but didn’t really have the budget and had to construct a creepy dummy that ended up precariously hanging over the audience’s heads for the rest of the show because we couldn’t get it down.
At our 2021 Christmas show, we held an Air Guitar Battle to win a new Fender guitar – judged by Dicko. There were wig reveals, body paint, shirts ripped off and a lot of daggy moves.
