Magic Steven is not your everyday comedian
Known for his distinct style of rather complex, poignant comedy, Steven’s latest part comedy-part stage show Try To Love Everyone explores the awkward hidden contents of the subconscious mind. Consisting of sharing his personal experiences and thoughts with the audiences, Steven’s latest show focuses on him telling stories from his life, “as honestly as possible”.
“This particular show addresses the problem of ‘Try[ing] To Love Everyone’. They say it’s good to be nice to everyone... Not just your family and friends,” he explains, “but also yourself, people you’ve never met, animals, etc. This is not always easy. And yet it’s said to be important.”
Originally from Melbourne, Steven’s inspiration for his individual style of comedy was born out of a trip to South India a number of years ago. On the trip he started the practice of chronicling what was happening to him in notebooks; something that he continues to this day.
“I was taught from a young age, to treat every experience as a lesson… to open your mind, and heart. But more and more I find, that often there are experiences that I can’t understand,” he says. “So the note-taking, and these live shows, were born out of my ongoing struggle to understand what’s going on around me, what’s going on internally for me.

Like Steven’s smash hit predecessor In Search Of True Self – which did extremely well at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival – Try To Love Everyone attempts to prove there is much more behind comedy shows than what meets the eye.
