Listen: Meals - Phases (prod. Tora)

Another in Australia's rising new breed of interesting hip hop acts..

More Tora Tora

I remember being 15, having a vastly different taste in music, and listening to The Nosebleed Section by Hilltop Hoods on repeat. My tastes have changed significantly since then, and this resulted in a significant hiatus from Aussie hip hop. In those 10 years, I watched as triple j became polluted with guys in their 20s with very strong Australian accents, singing about getting hella pissed on a Saturday night. To say I found it hard to connect with the music would be a gross understatement.

However, this hiatus finally ended thanks an onslaught of new-age Australian hip hop. This very blog has OUTLINED a massive selection for you recently, and one of my new personal favourites is a smooth operator known as Meals. He's the kinda guy you can whack on the stereo on a Sunday morning, when you think the world is imploding and there's no light at the end of that tunnel. Phases - produced by Tora - is a suave and masterful assortment of words, and Meals' flow is effortless, and impressive to say the least.

Meals' relationship with Tora extend to their music as well. His eloquent rhymes feature on Never With Me from Tora's latest EP, Eat The Sun:
