Listen: Best Coast - California Nights

Cacti, cats...and grunge. Best Coast are back!.

More Best Coast Best Coast Profile

They're still chillin' out there on the West Coast of LA. "I stay high, all the time / Just to get by," sings Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino on the duo's new track California Nights, their first new music since 2012's The Only Place. The sunny surf-pop of the band's breakout hit Crazy For You is nowhere to be seen - in its place is an excursion into psyche-out, 90s style grunge, that makes the most of the outfit's guitar-playing strengths.

It's off their next album of the same title, due out in May, which has been produced by Wally Gagel (Miley Cyrus, Muse), and marks BC's first major label debut following a move to Harvest.

They've put out a video to accompany the track; a montage of Californian desert landscapes drenched in shades of sunset, mixed in with scenes of Bethany and Bobb Bruno hanging out with mates and their cat. Cosentino told Rolling Stone about the inspirations behind the vid: "In L.A., or maybe just personally to me, when the sun sets — I feel like there is a large sense of calmness in the air. I feel like everything that happened to me prior in the day, whether crappy experiences or good ones, at night, it all goes away and I sink deep into this different kind of 'world.'" Watch below.
