'I Wanted My Album To Feel Bigger Than Just Music': Charley On 'The Chronicles Of A Serial Idealist'

Laneway Festival 2013 Dates Announced

Now in its ninth year, the Laneway Festival is one of these festivals that I know I would line-up for

It’s that time of the year again. Thousands of music fans all over Australia fight to have the chance to attend one of the many music festivals held in our delightfully hot summer. You know how the story goes: you’ve heard the line-up for a festival and you think it’s absolutely spectacular and you say you NEED tickets.

You sit at your computer screen and have your bank details punched in half an hour before tickets go on sale, and when they do all that separates you from your beloved tickets is that small, yet significant, SUBMIT button.

Now in its ninth year, the Laneway Festival is one of these festivals that I know I would line-up for. Beginning in 2004 when two guys thought Melbourne summers would be more interesting with live music in unique locations, the festival started out as the St Jerome’s Summer Series and featured new bands at the time such as THE PRESETS and ARCITECTURE IN HELSINKI playing weekly on Sunday’s. Soon it extended to monthly Saturday shows which were called Brains, and after a while, organisers Danny Rogers and Jerome Borazio planned to close off a lane, remove the bins that were already there and have a proper laneway party.

Fourteen hundred people attended the first festival and it is now one of the most exciting festivals of the summer. The 2012 line-up included M83, CHAIRLIFT, SBTRKT and TORO Y MOI, and I would tell you the wonderful acts that are lined up for this year but unfortunately, they won’t be released until September 26. However, I can tell you the dates for the 2013 tour so you all know when Laneway touches down in your city!
