We get to know Perth's Michael Strong, celebrating his debut album, Amalthea..

Michael Strong is a Perth-based artist who many over this way would recognise as frontman for alt-rock outfit The Disappointed. More recently though, he's been delving head first into the realms of IDM, and it's recently culminated in the release of his debut album under his solo moniker, Amalthea. It's an aggressive, chaotic explosion of electronica, at times challenging, always rewarding.

To celebrate its release we thought it'd be a good opportunity to help you get to know him a little better, so hit the stream below (or buy it from BANDCAMP) and check out a few questions with the man himself. And catch him live on launching the album this Sunday 18 December at 459 Bar (info HERE).

I’m a record producer, music maker, spinning brain on a stick, The Disappointed face.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

IDM/experimental/drum'n'bass.

Tell us about your debut album, Amalthea:

Amalthea is a weird, fun nightmare - testing out how much shit I can throw at ya without losing the musicality. A lot, it turns out. It just got featured on RTRFM which was lovely. Out now on Blue Grey Pink.

You’re launching it this weekend right?

Hells yeah, 459 Bar, 4pm Sunday with Jeff’s Dead and Ryan Beno.

What do you do outside of music?

I produce and engineer…more music.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

I’ve been producing the new Lionizer record, so I’m working on that for the rest of the year. And I’ve always got a new song on the go. The next solo album will be out in the first half of next year. And The Disappointed are rehearsing to hit the stage in January.

Where can we hear more of your music?

BANDCAMP, FACEBOOK or SPOTIFY or wherever else you prefer to do these things.
