Polographia are at it again, delving into the world of electronic in their own unique way.

The fact that the origin of their name was brought upon by member Moktar Youngblood almost seven years ago, goes on to tell us how dedicated the boys from POLOGRAPHIA really are. Lucky for us, they're are at it again, delving into the world of electronic in their own unique way.

It’s safe to say that Sydney producers Moktar Youngblood and Daniel Finn have found their niche, focusing on those softer and more band like sounds that make Polographia distinct. Their recent appearance at Vivid marked the start of a very big year filled with new music, new collabs and live performances.

With their chill-wave inspired beats showcased in their originals and remixes, the boys had the chance to step out of their comfort zones earlier this year whilst collaborating with Cosmos Midnight. “It was really fun to experiment with different sounds and styles…but we like veering away from banger beats and produce more chilled music”, Moktar Youngblood said in an interview with Polographia.

So how did you get the name Polographia?

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

Well it’s a funny story actually, it was back in year 9 in geography class. We were asked to look up ancient Greek maps and find their names. We had to translate them and one name just stuck with me and that was Polographia.

Dan was cool with that I’m assuming?

Yeah, he loved it. I knew that I would use it one day.

So you’ve got some new music coming up, what’s expected from your new singles?

We are planning to release three or four of our singles from now until the end of the year. We’re really excited about our new stuff and we’ve really created who we are through it. We are trying to get out of the banger beats and move towards a more chilled vibe which we’re all about. We like to classify ourselves as a band rather than DJ’s.

What’s a Polographia’s live set like?

Our live sets cross over with live instruments and electronic music. We like to mix live drums and guitars and sample pads to create the sound we want.

With your upcoming collabs, who can we expect to see?

We’re really excited to be working with a few other artists. Cosmos midnight opened up some more opportunity for us. Our next single that is set to be released mid-July features Kamaliza, the lead singer of Olympic Ayres. Kamaliza has a perfect soul range in his vocals which really suits our sound. There’s more artists that we have gotten together with but we won’t be able to release that until later on.

You mentioned in an interview previously this year that you're pushing for a more organic sound by using samples from records, is this what you guys have done?

For sure. We like to use a lot of rare samples and snippets that haven’t been heard before to keep our sound authentic. We like to sample our own stuff and chop and change it. We record our own instruments and cut it up and change it up to make us sound like a band rather than beat makers.
