Swedish producer KORNEL KOVACS is heading to Australian shores to take part in Summer Dance, a series of outdoor dance parties set to warm up Sydney this summer. Highlighting both local and international techno talents, Kornél Kovács' electronic ways make him perfect for the bill.
To get to know him a little better, the producer took us through his top picks for Stockholm's best record stores, saying this is "definitely what most people ask me about my hometown." Kornél Kovács divulges the city's famous record shop spots as well as its best kept secrets, and offers up this fun fact: "These stores are operated by men named Mika, Michael, Mikael, Micke and Micke, respectively."

Probably my favourite record store in the world, right here in Stockholm. An institution that's been around since the mid-90's that just keeps getting better. Mainly known for it's huge second hand selection which focuses on dance music from the 70's and forward, this place also has a big rap section and a small but super well curated stock of new import vinyl releases. Every time I go here I find lots of old gold and discover at least one brand new label."
Skivbörsen, Sankt Eriksgatan 71
"This is Michael Goulos' one man show. He's a Swedish DJ legend who started pushing disco music in 70's Stockholm when everyone still danced to Rock'n'Roll here. Today he runs one Sweden's top reggae soundsystems and this shop. If you ask nicely and bring a flashlight and/or asthma inhaler, he might let you into the dusty and dark back rooms where all sorts of wonderful super obscure records tower over you."
Record Mania, Östgötagatan 2
"Rare as fuck and accordingly priced jazz, soul and funk records cover the walls, the dollar bins are always good for some digging too. Located just around the corner from one of Stockholm's prettiest squares."
Mickes skivor, Långholmsgatan 20
"The only record store in town that regularly stays open late at night, in one of the busiest neighbourhoods in town, with lots of nice and cheap (for Stockholm) bars and restaurants around. This place gets a lot of funny customers after dark and is a really good spot for second hand rock, jazz and soundtracks. I usually head straight to the small but often very interesting library music / sound effects section."
Fade Records,Skånegatan 78
"Go here for the latest dance vinyl imports and a healthy dose of classic old-time record store clerk snark. Always great to watch Micke scare away customers, like the mp3 revolution never even happened!"
Catch Kornél Kovács amongst a lineup of incredible electronic and techno artists at Summer Dance.
