Let's get one thing straight – Kendrick Lamar knows how to put on a show, and for the first show on his Australian DAMN. tour leg, he brought it all. Opening with the Coachella-premiered Kung Fu Kenny opening – which returns several times as interludes while he rushes around the arena or catches his pace – Kendrick Lamar's Australian return was nothing short of show-stopping and energetic.

Armed with a full live band, a black-clad samurai-type figure and a majestic gymnast, Kendrick Lamar's minimalist stage set-up allowed him to take centre stage. There were no changing stages – aside from when he randomly popped up in the middle of the arena for Money Trees – and no visual distractions, just Kendrick and his quick-paced flow in the front. That said, Kendrick didn't need anything more. The entire, 16,000-strong arena was his for the whole performance, often jumping around and screaming even during some of the rapper's more low-key cuts.

In terms of what was played? Well, there was a lot of DAMN., naturally. Opening with DNA., the majority of his Pulitzer Prize-winning album scored a play during the set, from ELEMENT. and LOYALTY. to LUST., PRIDE., and of course, HUMBLE., in which the crowd did a capella before Kendrick took the reigns on its second play. There was also a bit of his back catalogue too, with cuts from To Pimp A Butterfly and good kid, m.A.A.d City both popping up as well as a couple of curveballs.
