Have You Heard: Mal Eastick

6 February 2017 | 4:08 pm | Artist Submission

When did you start making music and why? At age 16. I was automatically drawn to it when I first heard great blues/rock guitar, particularly lead guitar. Those influences were Eric Clapton, Paul Kossoff, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix.

Sum up your musical sound in four words? Guitars talking, singing, crying.

If you could only listen to one album forevermore, what would it be and why? In Step by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stunning top-of-the-tree band performance and songs with superb guitar playing. Perfect sound, texture, tone, effects, chords, solos and phrasing in all emotions.

Greatest rock'n'roll moment of your career to date? On stage playing and musically directing the Andrew Durant Memorial Concert, in honour of my dear friend, bandmate and songwriter Andy Durant, who died of melanoma cancer at 25 years old in 1980. The original live album charted at #1.
