Give us a brief history of the band (or you if a solo artist) to this point: First album, Westworld produced by The Clash guitarist Mick Jones. Toured throughout UK and Europe since 1980. Formed Spear Of Destiny in 1983. Still writing and recording and releasing records. First time in Oz. Playing here acoustically with cellist Sam Sansbury.

What's been the musical highlight of your career so far? Just about every time I walk the boards. Privileged to be allowed to continue and have people turn out to hear my music. Nothing's a given in this life, I'm a lucky man.

What's your view on the current state of the local live scene? First time here so will check out the various artists supporting us so, that's a start.

What are you currently drawing inspiration from musically? Persons of interest. People with passion not just hanging about. The winners, the losers.... irony... there's plenty of it out there… myself included I'm afraid.

Do you feel more at home on the stage or recording? Equal I'd say. First love is the stage. 'Give me a stage where this bull can rage, hey, that's entertainment' — De Niro. The stage is reality.

Why should people come out and see you live? Because it keeps me alive, in every sense. It's passion and life.

What's in the pipeline for you musically? The release of Theatre Of Hate's new album Kinshi shortly. Touring UK, Europe and west coast of America with it from May onwards.

When and where are your next gigs? Factory Floor, Sydney, 18 Jan; New Globe Theatre, Brisbane, 19 Jan; Hotel Metro, Adelaide, 20 Jan; Bendigo Hotel, Melbourne, 22 Jan.
