"Everyone was maggot drunk, again (I think it must be a Queensland thing?). It felt like we were being punk'd or something. I guess Queensland like to go hard?"
After last week's NSW run, we thought it would be a waste of a week going down to Melbourne only to head back up to Queensland in a few days, so we headed to La Casa (The House). It's basically an artist residency right on the water in Byron Bay. When I say on the water I literally mean on the water, as the drop off that the house resides on is slowly eroding so the back porch pretty much drops off in to the ocean.
La Casa...a musician's paradise!

This place was amazing! There is a studio that you can make noise or record in 24 hours a day with some of the most run down instruments that creates such an awesome and unique vibe and sound. The place is also supported by Corona, so there's an unlimited supply. It's pretty much the happiest place on earth. Some other bands that have recently dropped by are Alpine, The Temper Trap, Beach House and our Ballarat lads Hunting Grounds. We also heard Mushrooms grow all year around in Bryon Bay so we went hunting on a few occasions, to no avail. All well, unlimited beer will suffice.
After a week of beers and new tunes we headed to the Gold Coast to play Elsewhere. We love this venue. With their incredibly low ceilings and light up dance floor it's always got a good vibe on a Friday or Saturday night. This show was one of the most fun so far. Some drunk guy got on stage and stole the mic for half of our cover of Underworld's 'Born Slippy', no one seemed to give a fuck so we just let him finish off the song. We had a blast at Elsewhere and rounded off our night with a few cocktails on the roof with our good friend and Elsewhere owner Stretch. On the more negative side of the night, Cavill Ave a nightmare! Everyone is so absolutely drunk and violent, it doesn't even seem like they're having that good of a time, they just go out to get fucking obliterated. We were waiting in line to get some pie face before heading home, when a taxi cab pulled up beside us and 3 men literally barrelled out onto the concrete punching on. Let's get out of here. Hey look at that, it's our good friend Yuksek on the poster next to us.
Yuksek! Maaaaate!
The next night was Alhambra Lounge. It was a lovely sunny day in Brisbane. During the day I sat at a pub mixing some stuff that we had done the days before at La Casa. What better way to drown out the local pub bogans. I don't think they liked me though, they thought I was obstructing their game of pool. Our good friends Millions came down to say hello while we were setting up our stuff. They supported us on our last trip around Australia 2 years ago, how time flies. Dom the singer from Millions agreed to be our merch bitch for the night. Thanks Dom.
Mixing tracks and sinking beers at the pub. Good times.
The show was good, but it seemed like everyone was having TOO good of a time. Everyone was maggot drunk, again (I think it must be a Queensland thing?). It felt like we were being punk'd or something. I guess Queensland like to go hard?
We drove straight back to Melbourne after the show. Brisbane nightlife is pretty gross; I wonder what the repercussions would be of gently nudging this group of muscly guys covered in tribal tattoos with our tour van.
We're watching you, man with the beverage in the middle of the pit.
Next week: Ballarat and Melbourne.
