The frontman of a promising young Australian band has expressed his delight at being fired by his bandmates over Facebook.
Earlier this morning the band changed the password on the account, took down any pictures of him and posted “The band has decided to continue without our frontman Derek Ribbler.”
Ribbler was alerted to the news when his mum called him after seeing the post, asking what had happened.
Speaking to SPA Confidential today, Ribbler said that he couldn't be happier with the respect shown to him by the rest of the band.
“I've cherished every moment of my time with this band, and this is just another of those moments. I can't thank the boys enough for handling this so well.”
Ribbler's firing comes shortly after the director of a Russian ballet troupe was fired by a dancer who threw acid in his face, and Ribbler believes its examples like his that prove the Australian music community is one of the most civilised in the world.
“A mate of mine who played bass American band had a hard time when he was fired,” he said. “The drummer signed him up to a Communist email newsletter that the CIA was monitoring and he was handed over to authorities. Haven't heard from him in a while, actually.
“There was also a keyboardist from the UK I met while they were on tour here. His frontman Photoshoped pictures of him into a gay orgy, loaded them up onto his phone he'd stolen and handed it over to the tabloids. They sold 500 records the next day and got to kick out my mate.”
It is believed that South American bands take the 'underperforming football player' approach and generally just start shooting at and around any members they don't want in the band anymore. Ribbler is currently considering an offer to join to South America-based indie pop outfit Quispe Quispe.
