Despite the name, Fake News isn’t lying when they tell you their latest album is out now. Dead Set was released yesterday (May 7), an action-packed skate punk LP.
“The sound of Dead Set builds on what we already have done in a modern fashion, using sounds that we have never previously used,” guitarist Darren Crowe explains. “With a fresh batch of harmonies, melodies, pitch shifting and lyrical styles, catchy choruses and gritty verses, this album moves with the times of the new dark ages, staying true to our previous sound while evolving.”
So, to celebrate the release of Dead Set, Fake News is taking The Music through their new album, track by track.
Destination
This is quite a different song to the usual Fake News offerings. We thought it would be a great way to open up the album and really catch people off guard with something they are not expecting. The music hits hard with some apocalyptical lyrical meanings in there: as if the world is coming to an end, and we have had to leave and start life on a new planet. Or just how we go about surviving on this earth with the path of destruction we seem to be heading for.
Break A Leg

This track is about the saying, “Break a leg”, and how a lot of people believe there is a curse attached to the saying - as in, if you don’t tell someone to break a leg before a performance, something is likely to go wrong. This song comes straight out of the Fake News punk rock mold that we are known and loved for.
Southbound
Southbound is about making a trip south down the highway to catch up with friends. The song is more about the journey than the destination, and how good it feels to go on a road trip and the freedom of the open road with the wind in your hair and the stereo cranked.
Therapy
This song is about hitting your breaking point. You have tried to hold yourself together for so long, and you find yourself lashing out, because nothing else worked.
Complicated
Complicated is about someone you care about a lot, and you do everything you can to help them through their problems, but they are so complicated that it seems impossible.
Face Of Death
This track is a motivation song, stating that if you are on your last legs and it feels like it’s all over or too much, you have to keep fighting and never give up. Being able to stand up to any challenges that are put in front of you is so important.
Running Out Of Time
Running Out Of Time is about a person that lives their life like a natural disaster. Every choice they make is chaos, and if they keep going like that, it’s only a matter of time before they go too far.
Beer
The name says it all here, and is something most of us can relate to. It is about knocking off from a hard day's work and drinking beer with your mates.
Not So Tough
This song is about someone that constantly runs their mouth - acting like a big dog - but, when they get squared up to, they crumble. We all know people like this and calling them out is usually the best option.
Fortunate Son
Fortunate Son is a cover - you’ll have to ask John Fogerty for this one.
Hit The Ground
This is about how much a person has gone through, and how every day is so full on with drama that you feel like you have just hit the ground running and can’t stop. This song is classic Fake News with some great guitar riffs and accents to really cement it in people’s heads.
Fake News’ new album, ‘Dead Set’, is out now on all streaming platforms.
