EXCLUSIVE: How Briggs And Gurrumul Came To Collaborate

1 August 2014 | 3:06 pm | Staff Writer

We get the lowdown on how it all came together

More Briggs More Briggs

In what has to be the best collaboration of the year, Melbourne rapper Briggs’ latest single, The Hunt, featuring Australian music icon Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has been making quite an impact since it dropped early July.

With Gurrumul hailing from Galiwin'ku, an island of the coast of the Northern Territory, and Briggs from Melbourne – both focusing on different genres - it was similarities in their political viewpoints that brought them together to collaborate on the unique track, with Gurrumul’s friend and producer Michael Hohnen describing Briggs as a “positive activist”.

We’ve scored a behind the scenes look at how the track came together in the studio, and how the collaboration came about, with in-studio videos and interviews.

The Hunt is taken off Briggs’ new record, ShepLife, which is set for release August 22 via Golden Era.
