EP PREMIERE: Mecha Mecha - Blink & You'll Miss It

Hook into the Brisbane alt-rock trio's new extended player ahead of its release this week.

Brissy alt-rock trio Mecha Mecha release their sophomore EP, Blink & You'll Miss It, this Friday, and theMusic.com.au is chuffed to be premiering the new six-tracker ahead of its official arrival in a few days' time.

Following on from where singles Dealbreaker and Your Choice left off — the latter actually opens the record — Blink & You'll Miss It wears its influences on its sleeve, with evident inspiration coming from the likes of Muse and, in parts, Rage Against The Machine.

Vocalist/guitarist Walter Webb says there's a third name that immediately comes to his mind when considering the songs on the new release — particularly its opener — though it may come as a surprise to some fans: Jeff Buckley.

That apparent disparity shouldn't really be too shocking, however, when one comes to appreciate the diversity of elements that Mecha Mecha have woven into their EP, which also carries a bit of the ambition and scope of The Dear Hunter amidst its layered sounds.

Features such as the pizzicato strings of Dealbreaker and piano/acoustic work of closer Clingwrap, among other moments, suggest that their self-use of 'neo-classical' in describing their sound isn't just for pizzazz.

Being only their second release, Blink & You'll Miss It is an exceptionally assured collection of songs, with Webb and his brother Angelo (drums) and Isaac Vincent (violin/bass) having clearly settled into a fruitful creative groove brimming with punch and potential.

The band will be launching their EP with a special show at the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane this Thursday, 27 July, with Trails and Hooch also on the bill. Tickets are available now via Oztix.

Blink & You'll Miss It will be released the next day, 28 July. See the band's socials for more information.
