Recent data has revealed that players on Xbox and PlayStation collectively spent more time in Fortnite than in titles like Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) and the entire Call of Duty franchise combined.

The surge in Fortnite's popularity can largely be attributed to the success of the OG Season and the introduction of exciting updates, including the incorporation of games like Lego Fortnite.

Over the last two months, Fortnite has experienced a consistent rise in its player base, with November witnessing the highest number of players in a single day in the game's six-year history. Epic Games further fueled the momentum by introducing three new games to Fortnite in December: Lego Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing.

According to a report released by Ampere Analysis on January 11, the total hours spent in Fortnite saw a major surge of nearly 150 per cent in November 2023.

The trend continued in December, with playtime growing an additional 9 per cent. In total, console players dedicated more than 1.6 billion hours to Fortnite during November 2023.

Ampere's analysis indicates that console gamers on Xbox and PlayStation collectively spent more time in Fortnite than in other popular titles such as Roblox, GTA V, GTA Online, EA Sports FC 24, and the entirety of the Call of Duty franchise, including Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, and Warzone.

The overwhelming success of Fortnite has propelled Epic Games to become the leading publisher by monthly active users across Xbox and PlayStation, surpassing industry giants like EA, Ubisoft, and Activision.

While some industry experts anticipate Fortnite's statistics normalising as new or returning players lose interest, Ampere suggests that the confirmation of another OG season in 2024 by Epic Games could result in another massive surge in players — so stay tuned.
