"The inspiration for this track comes from the nightlife of our strange little city. Being lured in by the bright lights and going for broke with your best friends on the weekend, spending all of your money and not really caring about the consequences of your actions. Just trying to portray the lifestyle that our youth are swept up in and the feelings and emotions associated." So says Perth-based hip hop kid Rob Delirious talking about new single, The Lights. And true to from, its accompanying video clip is a beautifully shot ode to our fair city under the cover of darkness, shot by who else but Matsu, and featuring plenty of fellow Perth-based hip hop artists and producers.
The song itself also serves as a mission statement for Delirious: "I want to show people that the Australian accent doesn't have to be one to fear in the hip hop sphere; you can actually make it work. It doesn't have to be cringe worthy. I want to continue to blend singing and rapping to the point where they overlap, and you can't tell where one starts and the other ends."
Job well done as far as we're concerned. The clip also marks the launch of a new Perth-based music/creative collective called TONE YOUTH. Featuring Rob, along with a host of Perth peeps including Gravy, Chu and S.O.X. - one to keep an eye on.
