Business: Sony/ATV Music Publishing

Position/Title: A&R Director

How did you first become involved in the music business? I first became involved in the music business while interning at Sirius Satellite Radio during college. Following my internship, I landed an entry-level position as the receptionist at Sony/ATV Music Publishing's NYC office.

What do you perceive to be your area of expertise, and how did you gain experience in this field? Music publishing is my area of expertise. I gained experience while working my way up at Sony/ATV. As the receptionist, I developed a broad understanding of publishing while gravitating towards the more creative side of the business. I then moved into A&R, assisting various executives. As an assistant, I learned both the creative and administrative process of identifying talent and working with songwriters while gaining valuable relationships. As I grew as an A&R, I was able to put the knowledge and skills that I learned from being an assistant into developing a roster of my own.
