BIGSOUND Artist Profile: Woodes

More Woodes Woodes

Band Name: Woodes

Member/Role: Elle Graham

Hometown: Melbourne

Short description of your band and your music: Woodes is 23-year-old producer, singer and songwriter Elle Graham. Mysterious, beautiful, Woodes is a star in the making.

Has the party side of the music industry been all you were hoping for so far in your career? Haha, honestly the 'party side' is not really what I'm part of.

What is the best thing that's happened to you/your band so far? Working with producers that I respect and hearing from fans around the world that listen to my music. It's so nice receiving messages offering kind words and encouragement, especially from younger girls just starting out.

Are your ambitions mainly artistic or commercial? I don't divide them so distinctly. I'm interested in music placement and topline for commercial acts but in my solo project I want to make music I love. I'm not thinking of trends per se.

Is your music best rendered in the studio or the live realm? It's refreshing to take songs I've produced and play them for people, get a response and create an experience. I think through the percussion and live elements in my set I replicate the recordings well.

If you could have any act past or present join you on your next tour who would you tap? Imogen Heap. She'd make the tour fun. Plus she'd have amazing world instruments to play with and quirky costumes and inspiring words. I think as a producer, programmer and performer she's world class.

What industry lessons would you like to take away from the BIGSOUND conference? Looking at who's presenting I'm really excited to sit in on as much as possible. I'm fond of education and of the music industry, so I think I'm just going to nerd out.

What acts are you looking forward to checking out at the BIGSOUND showcase? JOY, Ben Abraham, Luke Howard, Caitlin Park, Sui Zhen, cln, Planete and Ella Thompson.

Why should people come and see you from amongst the many cool bands at BIGSOUND? I'm a one-woman band, playing live mallet percussion. It's fresh new material that's all self-produced. Maybe I will be the only person at BIGSOUND with a vibraphone? (If there's another act, hey, let's hang out.)
