Get to know your BIGSOUND artists.

Answered by: Beatrice Lewis

Give us a short description of your music: I really wanted to make hip hop when I started producing but instead ended up making a crazy hybrid of all the sounds I love. It gets called cinematic bass music or ambient electronica.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND? KAIIT, Two People, Alice Skye, Estere, imbi the girl, MOOKHI and so many more!

In your career to date, what have been the key watershed moments? I went to Red Bull Music Academy, which was pretty amazing. I got to meet and collaborate with producers from all around the world. Also doing supports and getting to share my music with some of the musicians who have really inspired me is nice, Jon Hopkins, Machinedrum, Mark Pritchard.

If you could give your younger self, starting out as a musician, a few words of wisdom, what would they be? Just chill and focus on the art, don't put too much pressure on all the other stuff. Making good music and enjoying the process is the most important part is what I have learnt.

Why should people come and see you among the many amazing bands at BIGSOUND? My beats are pretty massive and my BIGSOUND set times are at night and by that time of the festival you'll be sick of talking and want to come and dance and that's what I can definitely help with!

What industry lessons would you like to take away from the BIGSOUND conference? From what I have learnt of the music industry it's mostly made up of a small amount of good people who are all working hard at what they believe in. The biggest industry lesson for me is meeting good people and connecting with them and maybe making cool stuff happen.

What do you identify as the most pressing issue impacting the Australian music industry at present? Diversity. I feel there is a really strong conversation that's happening around diversity in the music industry at the moment and I'm really excited to see those changes happening around me.

What music trends do you think are dominating right now, and do you have any predictions for the coming year? I don't feel like there is one main trend that is happening at the moment and that to me is really cool. I think there is a real evolution in the diversity of sounds in Australia and that's what is exciting me.

When and where is your BIGSOUND showcase? 5 Sep, The Flying Cock, 9.50pm; 6 Sep, Woolly Mammoth, 11.30pm.
