Melanie CBrisbane's renowned LGBTQIA+ street festival, Big Gay Day, is gearing up for its 24th edition, set to take place on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, at The Wickham Hotel in Fortitude Valley.
The festival, known for its vibrant atmosphere and star-studded line-ups, has revealed that international sensation Melanie C of Spice Girls fame will be headlining this year's event.
The theme for Big Gay Day 2024 has been unveiled as Wickham of Oz, promising attendees a journey down a rainbow brick road filled with music, entertainment, and celebration. Hosted by The Wickham Hotel, the festival has established itself as one of Brisbane's largest and most inclusive events, showcasing a diverse array of pop stars, drag queens, musicians, and DJs.

For the 2024 edition, the festival will continue its tradition of shutting down the inner-city street outside The Wickham Hotel for a day of extravagance. Paul Wheeler, a beloved member of Brisbane's LGBTQIA+ community, will once again take on the role of MC for the event.
The Wickham Hotel has become a prominent entertainment venue, previously hosting internationally acclaimed artists such as Boy George and The Veronicas. The festival also serves as a platform for charity, with Big Gay Day consistently raising around $10,000 for LGBTQIA+ causes each year. In 2024, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to two LGBTQIA+ organizations.
Mark Baker, Venue Manager at The Wickham, expressed his anticipation for another spectacular day, saying, “Big Gay Day has become such an iconic day in the calendar for our community. It’s all about being loud, proud, and having a lot of fun to raise money for important charities in the LGBTQIA+ space and we’re so excited for what’s coming in 2024.”
