'We Were Inspired To Get Loud': Silversun Pickups On 'Tenterhooks' & Their Long-Awaited Return To Australia

Australian Music Week 2016 Speaker Focus: Chris Johnson

Organisation: Amrap (Australian Music Radio Airplay Project) - Manager

How did you first become involved in the music business and how did you end up where you are today? I studied and worked as a sound engineer and volunteered at a start-up community radio station. I became their first station manager and moved to Amrap to combine my love of Australian music and independent radio.

What advice would you give young practitioners starting out in your area? Get involved in community radio and your local music scene. If there isn't one, find other folks who share your interests and make a scene!

What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? Probably still navigating the great opportunities that new online platforms provide including music streaming and social media. It's no secret that it's changed the whole marketing and revenue structure for music.

What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at Australian Music Week? I'm on a panel about regional touring so I'll give a crash course in using Amrap's AirIt and Airplay Search to get music to stations and find radio programs that can attract audiences to shows.

When and where is your panel/interview? Nov 4, Cronulla RSL.
