Ash Grunwald - River

7 May 2015 | 11:13 am | Staff Writer

More Ash Grunwald More Ash Grunwald

Hard-working Aussie blues'n'roots luminary Ash Grunwald has a stacked plate at the moment — not only is he currently overseas performing at Canadian Music Week, as well as preparing upon his return for an impending spot at Blues On Broadbeach on 23 May, but he's also staring down the barrel of releasing new album Now this September.

Despite all that, Grunwald has found the time to unveil the first taste from the forthcoming full-length in the form of fresh single and video River, a driven, MOOG-dappled filthy-rock ditty created in collaboration with fellow musos Ian Peres (Wolfmother) and Pete Wilkins (ex-Blue King Brown) and producer Nick Didia (Pearl Jam/Bruce Springsteen/Rage Against The Machine). Described as "a call to those who are fed up with being played the fool", the thematic protests of River sway and churn with snarling guitar, swirling organ and purposeful percussion, sure to embed itself in your grey matter with ease.

If you like what you see and hear above, you'll be stoked to know that, between touring stints abroad, Grunwald will return home for an Aussie run of shows kicking off with his Blues On Broadbeach appearance and going on to include performances in Adelaide (29 May), Melbourne (5 June), Phillip Island (7 June), Sydney (12 and 13 June), and Brisbane (19 June), wrapping up with back-to-back performances at Byron Bay's Byron Theatre on Saturday, 20 June, and Sunday, 21 June.

Tickets for all of Grunwald's impending national shows are available now through myriad outlets; check theGuide or see The Music App for specifics for your town.
