Captivating, visceral, commanding and powerful - these are all words to describe the force that is Melbourne duo HABITS, and we can't get enough.
I can say without a doubt in my mind, I’ve never seen a show like a HABITS show. Visceral, commanding, powerful and utterly captivating, a duo has never - at least in my memory - done what HABITS are doing. The Melbourne duo, consisting of Mohini and Maia, are formidable to say the least.
Having dropped their Ugly Cry EP earlier this year, it’s been all systems go for the duo. East coast tours, countless huge Melbourne shows, appearances at BIGSOUND and Paradise and on top of all this, main support for none other than Peaches on her recent Australian tour, HABITS make it their business to be heard. Creating experimental, left-field electronica, they’re all about self-expression, and catharsis through music- but it just so happens it’s music you can rave to.
Releasing one of the best EPs of the year in 2016 with Ugly Cry, in this writer’s opinion anyway, HABITS are uncompromising in their sound and message: be whoever the fuck you want to be, don’t let anybody tell you different. They create soundscapes that encourage and revel in vulnerability and emotion, and it’s an intoxicating mix you want to get lost in. From ‘Gerger' to ‘Ether’ and beyond, Ugly Cry is impressive from start to finish, and set HABITS apart from the plethora of “experimental” acts into a league entirely their own.

With a live show that is uninhibited, unchained and totally mesmerising, it’s no wonder these two are becoming quickly sought after on the live circuit- a secret like this doesn’t remain so for very long. It’s no longer a question of “If” but “When” for these two in regards to when they’ll blow up - all we know is it’s going to be soon, and we are front-row and centre.
