Artists to Watch in 2016: Sampa The Great

Seemingly coming out of absolutely nowhere earlier this year, it's been all systems go for Sydney rapper Sampa The Great, but she's only getting started.

Seemingly appearing out of nowhere in the second half of this year, the meteoric right of SAMPA THE GREAT over the past few months makes her absolutely one to keep both eyes on for next year. Sydney-based, Zambia-raised, Sampa The Great is responsible for some of the best hip-hop tracks to come out of Australia this year, and it's only a matter of time before everyone knows who she is and what she's about.

Since her debut release The Great MixtapeSampa The Great has been one of the most sought after acts in the country. Supporting ODDISEE, playing at THE PLOT, with slots also booked at SUGAR MOUNTAIN and GOLDEN PLAINS next year, it's pretty safe to say everyone wants a piece of Sampa.

Her eclectic mix of rhythms and beats, her unique flow, her ability to put social issues in your face without you even realising and making you care, her incomparable songwriting skills- the list goes on for reasons why she is someone to be excited about.

With tracks like 'F E M A L E', 'Class Trip' and 'Jamal' leading the charge from The Great Mixtape, she combines soul, jazz, hip-hop, R&B and more into her sound and pairs it with her rapid flow and keen lyricism to create a sound that is entirely her own, in a league of her own.

Linking up with the legends at Good Manners as well as Wondercore Island, 2016 looks especially bright for Sampa The Great. Kicking the year off with performances at the two aforementioned festivals will no doubt give her exposure she so obviously deserves, and hopefully really kick things into overdrive for her. We can't wait to watch.
