Melbourne-based muso and the drummer of seminal alt-rock band Rocket Science, Kit Warhurst, is branching out for the first time as a solo artist with debut album Colour Wheel, and The Music is stoked to be premiering the impending release today.
The 10-track full-length is a rollicking and assured initial effort, as recent album singles Nothing In Melbourne, Rose Red City and Oliver Never Knew Sunshine have demonstrated during their spins on stations such as Triple R, 3PBS and Double J.
The album was recorded in Melbourne, with mixing by Jeremy Glover (Julian Casablancas & The Voidz, Crystal Castles, Liars, The Devastations) in Berlin. Warhurst produced Colour Wheel and played all the instruments on the release, rarely requiring more than one or two takes to capture the vibe he was searching for as he straddled the realms of rock'n'roll, power-pop, retro garage and more.

The end result is an eclectic and infectious collection of tunes that provide a solid glimpse of Warhurst's copious talents as they stand, and a strong hint of the potential he is still yet to realise.
Colour Wheel will be released on Friday 17 March. Pre-orders are available now.
If you want to get along to the record's launch show, that's going down in Melbourne on Saturday 1 April at the Easey Street Concert Hall (next to 3PBS FM), with support from Kate Alexander. Warhurst will be joined by a live backing band for the show, comprising Brooke Penrose on drums and Alex Gray on bass.
