WA musician Davey Craddock is all about unusual people and unique stories on his second studio album One Punch, premiering today on theMusic.com.au.
The singer’s Aussie drawl sticks to the intricate lyrics, which topics range from nuclear testing and presidential unrest to personal stories about post-vacation blues.
"I'm painfully conscious that the 'white dude singing about girls' department is rather well under control," Craddock said.
"So on this album, I was just trying to burrow out a little corner where I could write on unusual stories or subjects that sat somewhere outside that framework."
The musical accompaniments turn out to be just as eclectic as the lyrical counterparts as Craddock and his band swing from twangy country-infused tracks to all-out rock and back again.
"Sound-wise, my band come from really diverse musical styles, and for this album, we gunned for much broader and more interesting sounds to suit the stories behind each song," Craddock explained.
"Some of the sounds are much angrier, gnarlier and noisier and some are much more ambient and spacey."
One Punch is officially released tomorrow (6 April).
